๐ฑ Installing a Root Barrier for Bamboo
To ensure your bamboo stays contained and healthy, please follow these steps when installing the root barrier:
- Dig the trench
- Excavate a trench around the planting area to a depth of 60 cm.
- Keep the sides as straight as possible for a snug fit.
- Line the trench with barrier
- Place the root barrier against the trench walls.
- At the join, allow for sufficient overlap so there are no gaps where roots could escape.
- Leave the barrier above soil level
- Ensure the barrier extends at least 30 mm above the final soil level.
- This prevents rhizomes from creeping over the top.
- Backfill halfway
- Refill the trench to about half its depth with soil.
- Firm it down gently to support the barrier.
- Position the bamboo
- Place your bamboo plants in the prepared trench.
- Adjust spacing and alignment as desired.
- Complete the backfill
- Fill the remainder of the trench with soil, pressing down to secure the barrier and plants.
- Water thoroughly to settle the soil.
